About Course

Online awareness training that teaches unqualified workers to recognize electrical hazards on telecom and construction sites, keep safe distances, and respond safely to an electrical incident.

By: Vertical Academy | Format: Online, self-paced | Language: English | Last Updated: 10/28/26

Description

This course is based on OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S, especially 1910.332 (training) and 1910.333 (work practices), and 29 CFR 1926 Subpart K, especially 1926.404(b)(1) (ground-fault protection), 1926.416, and 1926.417. It focuses on the electrical hazards field crews meet on telecom and construction sites.

The course is intended for unqualified workers (people not trained to work on or near exposed energized parts): tower climbers, riggers, installers, ground crews, laborers, equipment operators, and supervisors. It is awareness training only. It is not NFPA 70E qualified-person or arc-flash training, and it does not qualify anyone to work on energized equipment. Your employer decides who is qualified.

Learners who complete all lessons and pass the final exam receive a Vertical Academy completion certificate with a unique certificate number and QR code verification.

What Will You Learn?

  • How electric current injures people: shock, electrocution, burns, arc flash, and falls caused by a shock
  • The difference between qualified and unqualified persons, and what unqualified persons must not do
  • How to work safely near overhead and underground lines, including the 10-foot minimum distance for unqualified persons near lines of 50 kV or less
  • How GFCIs, cord and tool inspection, and temporary power rules protect workers, including AC and DC hazards at cell sites
  • How to respond to an electrical incident: do not touch the victim, de-energize, call 911, and use stop-work authority
